Ferrules are the rounded plastic end caps that attach to one end of the spar and insert into the hub. Each ferrule features a “ball” shape designed to seat securely into the hub sockets once the hub cover is removed.

See diagram for parts breakdown:

  • The spar is the carbon fiber pole that forms the SHIFTPOD’s frame
  • The ferrule is the rounded plastic connector on one end of the spar that inserts into the hub
  • The spar cap is the flat plastic piece on the opposite end that seats into the fabric corner pocket

Note, each new replacement spar comes with both a ferrule and spar cap pre-installed. This listing is intended for customers who need replacement spar caps only for spars they already have.

Repair Instructions

Required Supplies:

  • Pot for boiling water
  • Pliers
  • Towel/Heat-Safe Gloves
  • Replacement Ferrule
  • Protective Surface (to work on while parts are hot)

Steps:

  1. Heat the Spar: Bring water to a boil. Submerge the ferrule end of the spar in the water for 8-10 minutes to soften the adhesive.

  2. Remove the Broken Ferrule: Carefully remove the spar from the water and use pliers to twist and pull off the broken ferrule. Use a towel or gloves to protect your hands.

  3. Install the New Ferrule: While the spar is still warm, insert the new ferrule into the end of the spar. Then gently tap the ferrule end on the ground to ensure it seats fully. No glue or adhesive is needed—the heat will help create a secure fit.

  4. Let It Cool: Allow the ferrule and spar to cool completely before using.

⚠️ Please use caution when handling boiling water and hot parts. Work slowly and protect your hands.
