Your SHIFTPOD Trip Planning Guide

How to arrive ready, stay comfortable, and be self-reliant no matter what the universe throws at you.

1. Set It Up Before You Go

There’s no better place to troubleshoot than your own backyard. Before you hit the road:

Practice setting up your SHIFTPOD to refresh your memory and spot any broken or missing parts from storage or shipping.

Download our Setup Guide and save it to your phone for when you don't have service.

Don’t overtighten your SHIFTPOD on your roof rack. Crushed spars aren’t the kind of “surprise” you want when you arrive.

2. Mother Nature Will Test You
The weather isn’t just unpredictable, it’s downright dramatic. Prepare for everything:

Learn basic field repairs before you go. Checkout our videos on How to Replace a Broken Ferrule and a Quick Field Repair for a Broken Spar.

Take extra ferrules, purchase 1/2" copper piping at your local hardware store, and bring pliers and gloves for field repairs. SHIFTPOD Zipper Slip will also keep your zippers moving smoothly in dusty terrain.

3. Expect the Unexpected
Always stake your SHIFTPOD, even if it’s calm. The desert wind has a sneaky way of showing up while you’re off exploring--no one wants to come back to their SHIFTPOD rolling across the desert like a giant silver tumbleweed.

If it rains, install your rainfly (or Blast Shield for older models) to keep the weather outside where it belongs. Download our Rainfly Setup Guide.

4. After the Dust Settles
When the adventure’s over, clean and DRY your SHIFTPOD before storing. Even a little moisture (like morning dew or condensation from your breath) can turn into mold and mildew in a couple weeks. Opening a funky SHIFTPOD is definitely going to ruin your week.

Stay tuned! Our post-festival cleaning guide is coming soon.

5. Pack Like a Pro
Our founder never leaves home without:
• Pliers
• Mallet
• Silver Gorilla Tape
• Zip ties
• Jumper cables
• Tire patch kit
• Extra water (bring more than you need—you’ll make friends fast)
• Ear plugs
• Dust masks
• Basic first aid kit
• Lighting, chargers & extra batteries
• Add your own essentials to cover food, shelter, clothing, and comfort

The desert rewards the prepared. Make sure your SHIFTPOD is ready for anything--so you can focus on the magic, not the mishaps.
